Chiefs Turn Back the Knights: 27-0

The Chiefs were put to the test today as the defending champion Northridge Knights came to Chatsworth H.S. Battling stifiling heat, and a grueling ground-and-pound Northridge running attack the Chiefs responded with courage and character.

The Chiefs took the opening kickoff and put together a methodical 8 play drive on the ground punctuated by a Cameron touchdown run. Casey was sacked on the XP attempt as the Chiefs stood pat with a 6-0 lead. On the ensuing drive, the Knights held the ball for 15 plays and drove to Chief 1 foot line before were derailed by penalties and a defense that stepped up and shut them down on 4th and goal from the 8 yd line. The game then turned into a defensive struggle as both teams exchanged solid defensive series. With 1:30 left in the half, good field position, and a 6-0 lead the Chiefs took a kill shot - and it nearly backfired. Casey's long corner pass to Bookie was intercepted and returned deep into Chief territory seeemingly for 6 until DJ McDonald was chased down and tackled from behind by Cameron. The defense held on as the Chiefs went into the half with a 6-0 lead, and a lot of confidence in their ability th move the ball on the Knights.

The second half was all Chatsworth as the offensive line led by Jesse and Julian just pounded the Knights opening up running lanes for Cameron (2 tds), Bookie (2tds), and Jauq to run through. The Defense bent but never broke, and turned the Knights over in the second half as well on a fumble the was recovered by Cameron and returned into Knight territory. Special teams play was strong once again as Casey recovered a downfield kickoff after the Chiefs fourth touchdown. The offense then ran out the clock to close out the game.
